Standrod Family {studio family session}

Studio sessions are something I have just started doing over the past couple months and they have been a lot of fun! When I started doing these sessions the goal was to create family photos that are clean and modern but have a timeless appeal to them. I still love photographing sessions outdoors, but it’s not always a great option depending on the time of year or if the weather has taken a turn for the worse. So, having an indoor space has been a lifesaver for the past couple months for families. The Standrod family was one of the first families I photographed in this studio space and I really loved how their portraits turned out. Stephanie from the local boutique Magnolia and Fig helped style Annette for this session and provided some really great insight on how to create a great color palette for family photos. I want that velvet kimono STAT!

Thank you Standrod family for everything!

Richter Family Session

It's always so fun to photograph the Richter family.  Liz and I have known each other since we were both in college, searching for our first "real jobs".  When she said she was moving to Louisville from Missouri around the same time as me I was so excited to know there would be someone familiar in Louisville, that I knew nothing about at the time.  Liz is an amazing artist and friend and it's been incredible to see her step into the role of motherhood with her husband, Corey, and their son, Barrett.  Barrett is now 2 years old, so we had a fun session to capture the milestone.  Happy Birthday Barrett!

Janke Newborn Session

A few weeks ago I was able to photograph the Janke family and the newest addition to their family, Clarence.  I LOVE this family's laid back attitude and all those wild boys!  Thanks for keeping it real, guys!  Vanessa, your family is beautiful.

My Kids

We finally fit in some "formal" portraits of the kids this past weekend.  It was so fun!  My husband assisted me during the shoot and we had a blast letting the kids play and be silly while capturing them in their element.  We used the Mellwood Art Center, and I love the industrial look that it gave the photos.

Sometimes, I get asked about my editing style or what inspires me.  And truth be told, it's my kids, hands down.  Jovie and Warren have this beautiful auburn red hair - I NEVER want to forget how red their hair is at this stage.  I love, love, LOVE their red hair.  Liam, my oldest has these amazing ocean blue-green eyes.  I want to see exactly how stunning his eyes are in photos!  So, I edit my photos so that I can see exactly those things.  I know it's super trendy to edit photos in a dark, moody style, but for me - the colors are part of the story and part of the memory.

Check out these photos of my cute kids!
